Adobe Photoshop is very similar to its older version, Photoshop Elements. They are in fact the same program. Elements was launched in 2005 and sold separately at retail for $149. Adobe Photoshop CS6 is now available as a stand-alone product for $579, and is sold as a subscription service for $20/month.
Managing your files has gotten easier. The program can run on any computer with a processor that is compatible with Windows 2000 or higher.
As this program gets older, some of its features and options have become more difficult to find or use. You can take advantage of Plug-Ins for additional programs, which do add functions, but we will get into this as we review Photoshop CS6.
Other versions of Photoshop do not include the command panels as shown here.

The upper left corner has a black menu bar with some of the most common controls. On the bottom, the middle area shows thumbnails of your files, while the lower left area is reserved for buttons for the active tool. The Pen tool is useful for drawing or drawing lines on the canvas. It works a lot like the mouse on a typical computer.
When you apply a filter to an image, it should be applied across the entire canvas, so that the effect is seamless and correct.
Most filters can be saved as a preset. This will save time when you apply them to many images. For instance, you can save a Layer Mask, Blur or Inner Shadow. This way, whenever you want to apply that effect again, you don’t have to do it every time.
When you add an effect to your image, you should either’mask’ the effect onto an existing layer, or leave it on its own.
You can desaturate an image or color it using the Hue/Saturation tools.
When adjusting the opacity of an image, use the Opacity tool. This is available for every layer except for the Background layer.
When setting the Fill to be colorless, use a solid color. For instance, white is solid white, and black is solid black.
When filling the layers with a solid color, you can use the Fill as a Background option. For instance, if you make your Background layer white, it will color the entire image white, so you can use that technique to make your backgrounds transparent.
When you want to blur a layer, use the Gaussian Blur filter. This will soften the edges and give you a blur effect.
To duplicate objects or layers, use the Duplicate Layer function.
When you apply a stroke or outline to an image, use the Layers panel. To undo the stroke, use Edit > Clear All or go back to the Layer List and select the Layer you want to clear.
If you want to rotate the canvas and keep it centered in your window, use the Crop tool.
When working with images of a complex layout, you may want to divide them into multiple layers. Each layer can have a separate layer mask. For instance, you could have a sky layer, a ground layer, and a castle layer, etc.
Rotating or flipping can be done by using the Rotate and Flips tools, respectively.
When working on a complex layout, you will want to separate elements into different layers. For instance, you could have a sky layer, a ground layer, and a castle layer, etc.
The Reverse function is available on the Effects panel. When working on a complex layout, you can organize your
